Title: Food Service Department Head at Shawnee Heights High School
Schedule: 6.75 hours per day Monday - Friday (6:45 am to 2:00 pm) (173 days per year)
Reports to: Kitchen Site Manager
Purpose and Objectives of the Position: The Department Head will assist in preparing and serving nutritious and attractive meals for the students. In order to accomplish this, the Department Head must work closely with staff and Kitchen Site Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to perform required tasks in preparing and serving meals.
- Ability to safely operate all equipment as required.
- Ability to follow State and Federal guidelines pertaining to food service department.
Physical Functions:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Required to stand in one place for lengthy periods of time.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning.
- Must work in a noisy, crowded environment.
- Must work in and around fumes and odors.
General Responsibilities:
- Ability to perform duties assigned by Kitchen Site Manager to prepare and serve meals in an efficient and pleasant manner.
- Ability to properly use and care for all equipment in all phases of food preparation.
- Ability to work with Kitchen Site Manager in a pleasant manner, to make the lunch serving time a pleasant time for students.
- Ability to follow rules for personal hygiene and overall cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the tasks listed.
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Must complete annual training as required by the district.
- Must verify good health by passing a physical examination that includes TB and drug test as required.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
- Ability to work with kitchen staff in a pleasant, cheerful manner to make school meals pleasant for all students.
- Must attend in-service meetings and job related training classes when possible for learning and exchange of ideas to make the breakfast and lunch programs successful.
