Title: Substitute Teacher
Pay: $125.00 for a full day of substitute teaching/$135 for teachers with 10+ experience and $65.00 for a half-day of substitute teaching/$70 for teachers with 10+ experience
Purpose and Objectives of the Position: Implement lessons plans in the absence of the teacher creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. To accomplish these tasks, the Substitute Teacher works closely with the staff and administration of the district.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
- Implement effective lessons in the absence of the teacher.
- Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
- Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
- Be familiar with fire exits, fire and tornado drill procedures. Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
- Maintain confidentiality of all students and staff.
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Leave detailed notes for the teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Office.

- Resume
- Current Kansas Teaching License – (Certified, Substitute or Emergency)
- Completed Substitute Information Sheet
- TB Test Verified by a Physician or Nurse
- KBI Release of Information Background Check
Terms of Employment: This is an on-call as needed 9 month position, with no benefits.
Employment requires approval by the Shawnee Heights Board of Education.
Salary to be established by the Board.
