Title: HVAC Technician

 

Schedule:  Monday-Friday/261 days per year

 

Pay:  $27-$35/hour

 

Reports to: Buildings and Grounds Coordinator/Director of Support Services

 

Purpose and Objectives of the Position: The HVAC Technician will perform heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) work such as wiring buildings, maintaining and repairing gas and heating units and maintaining and repairing air conditioning units.  They will also assist the Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Department in the maintenance needs of the district.

 

Qualifications

• Must have at least two years of maintenance experience on gas/electric heating units and all types of window or central air conditioning units.
• Must hold HVAC certification.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license.
• Completion of standard high school or trade school course, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology of refrigeration, air-conditioning, heating electronics and a working knowledge of the trade.
• Knowledge of the safety hazards of the work.
• Skill in the use of tools.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Dependability, self-motivation and good judgment.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as are determined to be appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Job Functions:

• Repair or replace gas and electric heating units.
• Repair or replace air conditioning systems or components.
• Read and understand general blueprints.
• Troubleshoot, repair, replace, remove or reinstall electrical components in building and equipment.
• Coordinate work orders in the maintenance shop and set a good example by creating a safe work environment.
• Give accurate and complete information on maintenance work orders.
• Document all district climate control units, including brand, equipment type, model number, serial number, area served, supply belt, return belt, filter, split system condenser model and serial number and installation date.
• Document all maintenance and repair work for each unit and the date completed.
• Maintain controls systems.
• Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
• Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
• Assist the maintenance department in maintaining the districts buildings and grounds and other duties assigned by the maintenance coordinator.                                                                                                                        

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:                                                                        

• Must be able to work with precision and control where damage could be significant.
• Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, climbing, balancing, and reaching.
• Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
• Exposure to areas where high voltage electricity is present.
• Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
• Requires the use of protective equipment and clothing, as needed.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.                                                                               

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Maintain school buildings in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
• Determine HVAC requirements in each building and ensure that all HVAC and electrical work meets code.
• Perform HVAC and electrical work including repair as well as wiring buildings and equipment.
• Repair or replace HVAC control systems components.
• Charges air conditioning systems with refrigerant and evacuate systems, as required.
• Require skills in manufacturing and dismantling as well as repair work.
• Keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly.
• Monitor work done by individuals assigned to him/her.
• Communicate effectively with all members of the school district.
• Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
• Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations. Must verify good health by passing a physical examination that includes TB and drug test as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
